As mentioned here we are in the slow process of upgrading our apartment. The process started in summer 2019, but was massively slowed down due to illness in my close family. However, with the Covid-19 quarantine situation the world is facing at the moment, I’ve found some time to resume the physical work in the apartment and create these interior posts for the digital realm.

We are taking one room at a time since we are living here while the renovation undertakes. There is no doubt that going somewhere else while getting all rooms done at the same time would be the most time-efficient solution, however, since our apartment is rental there are obvious limitations to the level of renovation that is possible and meaningful, why the one-by-one approach seemed best suited.

BEDROOM

Our bedroom is quiet, north-east facing and catches a bit of morning light. It has a big built-in closet (which needs an upgrade one day) and original, light herringbone flooring that we want to keep.

In terms of the atmosphere in the bedroom I wanted to create a calm and harmonic resting environment where we can find comfort and a really good night of sleep. When pinning inspiration on Pinterest I was inspired by and gravitated towards light, earthy-toned bedrooms with beds you wouldn’t be able to resist crawling into. To be completely honest my biggest dream would be a light and airy bedroom with huge floor to ceiling windows opening up to an ocean or forrest view. But since we’re still living in inner Copenhagen this scenario will have to wait a bit.

So instead to create and mimic the light and airy feeling, we’ve gone for a color palette composed by neutral - yet warm - tones, that we both feel will remain relevant and suit our taste for a long period of time. We’ve been back and forth between painting just one wall, all the walls or walls and ceiling the same color, and we’ll see how much courage we have as the room progresses. In terms of the smaller, decorative details we hope to include more colorful, organic and tactile textures and items to break the beige/sandy theme and bring in the feeling of nature, but without it getting too rustic.

Ever since I moved to Copenhagen 7 years ago, I’ve been living in the same rental apartment at inner Nørrebro. An approx. 120 m2, four bedroom apartment with old wooden floors, that I love very very much and was lucky enough to get a hold on quite randomly. The apartment has been housing myself and a handful of good roommates until this summer where my boyfriend and I got the opportunity to take over the whole apartment. My dream of having and creating a home of my own has increased little by little over the past couple of years. Instead of pinning clothing, I started pinning dream houses and furnitures on pinterest, and following more and more interior blogs and IG profiles without even realizing this pattern at first. However, I clearly remember how this dream went from being light and secondary to substantial and primary the day I finished my master studies. It was as if one huge chapter in life had closed, and bam there was room for a new grand one to begin.

While I’m also dreaming of a home with a garden close to the ocean sometime in the future, the apartment is absolutely perfect for now and thus we’re standing in front of a really exiting journey of making this our own. After many years there’s no doubt that it needs work from loving and hardworking hands - e.g. both walls and wooden floors are pretty worn. Since doing the floors is more money- and time-consuming, we’ve prioritized to paint the whole apartment to start somewhere.

My mission for decorating and upgrading our apartment is not to create some prestigious looking place, but for it to feel like our home. Not just a space to be lived in, but a place reflection Kenneth and I as persons, and a place we and our friends and family will love to spent time.

This post will be the first of hopefully many posts about our home in Copenhagen – interior design, “handy” things and just general updates – and I’m so excited for this! They will all be filed under the category interior.
